Media kit

In simple terms, what does this startup/product do?

We made a platform where anyone in the world can start to raise money in minutes for their idea without any fees and without a centralized authority.

Describe it as if you were describing it to a non-tech person on the street:

On Vote with Bitcoin, you can submit a project in minutes – give a short description of your idea or project, add links to your website and social accounts and off you go. People who like the idea or project can instantly transfer their money using bitcoin, and all the funds raised go straight to your wallet without any intermediaries. You can also embed UpVote buttons on your website and raise funds continuously.

What is happening in the news *right now* that makes you relevant *right now*?

Crypto space market capitalization is increasing by billions every week. Blockchain startups are raising money in hundreds of millions via VC funds and through centralized ICOs. A decentralized platform to raise money for your project or idea is a true game changer for everyone in such industries as crowdfunding and would increase a wider acceptance of cryptocurrencies. There are still billions of people who can’t access classical crowdfunding platform due to many reasons.

What is the big picture here? what is ‘the story’?

Projects like Kickstarter and Indiegogo were awesome once and they helped many cool projects to see the light, but these crowdfunding veteran platforms are outdated, slow and expensive. They have become a marketing tool for big players and they are mainly concentrated in western countries. Crowdfunding platform on blockchain is a no brainer.

What is the problem this company is solving?

Classical crowdfunding is lovely, but it’s heavily centralized with all the consequences – it’s hard to submit a project and many promising projects may get rejected. There is always a decision of a single person or a small group of people prior to your idea can get before the crowd. There is always an apparatus before the crowd, which doesn’t make sense if we want the crowd to decide, which idea is good and which is not. And for some, even a small crowd of a few people can make a difference for their idea and even in their lives.

How has this product solved that problem?

We are giving the world a free platform, where any idea gets submitted instantly, without a centralized authority and people decide how good the idea is and how capable the team behind it is by funding projects and voting with their money. When a project is submitted, it’s automatically published with a public bitcoin address and people supporting the idea make transactions straight to the wallet of a beneficiary.

Was it a personal problem you had? explain.

We are a technology startup and we were constantly thinking how to raise money for the last few years. Our founder is a big bitcoin and crypto believer and, so, when the wave of ICOs came, we started to think that maybe we can do an ICO for our technology startup as well, although it seemed quite complicated to launch an ICO with our resources. One day we thought let’s experiment and put a bitcoin address in the footer of the homepage of our project. To our surprise, somebody transferred some bitcoins and it got us thinking that there is a crowd for every project and idea, and there are people who would support good ideas with their money. Since we have had experience with crowdfunding a few years ago by being close to the successful Kickstarter campaign for Airdog Drone, it all clicked together and the idea of “Vote with bitcoin” crowdfunding platform was born.

Describe the genesis of the product?

It took us two weeks since the idea was born to launch it. We were in a hurry because the idea is so simple that anyone could launch it in a few days. We wanted to be the first and to scale it globally fast in order to have an advantage over the projects that will follow inevitably.

Walk me through the user experience:

We asked our designer to make as simple design as possible because this is a core value for the Vote with bitcoin project – simplicity. We knew from the start that it should be something very simple and we got the inspiration from projects like Wikipedia, Reddit or Hacker News.

Crucial: who are the competitors?

This is a new space because there is no successful decentralized crypto crowdfunding platform at the moment. There will be – soon and many. At the moment our competition is the old school platforms like Kickstarter and Indiegogo. We can also say that Product Hunt and Hacker News is our competition for the attention of people who like to see new ideas and projects getting started.

What are the key differentiators between you and other players?

  • Decentralization
  • No fees
  • Truly global
  • Every project is accepted

Why is this product better than its competitors?

  • Faster to publish projects
  • Supports overnight ideas
  • It doesn’t require additional marketing or other resources to launch a campaign
  • Nobody except you will have access to your money
  • You don’t need a bank account to launch a project.

How do you make (or plan to make) money?

We will never charge a fee on the funds raised because there is no sense to take money as a middleman if the technology allows not to. When the platform grows it will become the top100 most visited website in the world and we’ll decide on monetization as we go.

How big is the market it is addressing?

It can grow bigger than Kickstarter and Indiegogo combined because we add simplicity and all the countries in the world without limitations and all the people who are unbanked.

At the moment the project is limited to the size of bitcoin community, which is doubling every year. Bitcoin market capitalization is 28 billion and growing https://coinmarketcap.com/

How are you funded?

We financed the design and development from our own money (2-3k USD) and we are investing some in initial marketing.

Who is on the team and why are they awesome?

We are working on a technology company called Fulfilli and “Vote with bitcoin” is a side project to raise funds for our startup. Before Fulfilli we have been working together for the last few years as a web development & marketing team. We make up the perfect team for a startup – two founders (CEO and CTO), a designer, a front-end developer, 2 backend developers, a marketing specialist and a project manager.

Where is your team based?

We are running the project from a nice and cosy attic office in K. Barona street 21a, Riga, Latvia. For more information on the project, you can reach our CEO personally at sprenne@votewithbitcoin.com
